Pigalle was the in-house Events Manager for the volunteer charity TimeBank for two-years, during a challenging period of cut backs and changes to the third sector. She worked closely with the Communications team on the refresh of the brand positioning, and was responsible for developing and rolling out the events strategy for its relaunch to stakeholders, policy makers and funders.

Pigalle devised and produced Ain’t what you say, a series of three events which examined the role of communications and design on impacting and transforming public behaviour. The finale event examined the role of volunteers in shaping the Big Society. Pigalle secured a broad range of high profile speakers across the series and developed interactive gaming formats, for delegates to have one-to-one interactions with the speakers and opportunities for in-depth questions.

Ain’t what you say It’s the way you say it looked at campaign methods for changing public behaviour. Peter Barron, Head of Communications and Public Affairs, Google presented the evolving role of Communications across digital media, while Paul Newman, former Communications Director for Liverpool 2008, used adapted playing cards to reveal the challenges and methods used by the city to position itself as European Capital of Culture.

Mark Earls, author and ‘Herdmeister’ convinced delegates to jump with each other and discover how herd behaviour can be used as a tool for shaping social economics.

Ain’t what you say It’s the way you do it explored how public, private and third sector organisations have used design to influence emotions and choices. Wayne Hemingway, fashion designer, hosted the event and demonstrated how HemingwayDesign created award winning, affordable social housing. Delegates used an oversize origami fortune teller to pose questions to Deborah Szebeko, Director, thinkpublic, and discovered how her agency uses design to tackle social issues. Pigalle devised three board games for delegates to play, which represented the design and impact of TimeBank’s employee, mentoring and youth volunteering schemes.

Ain’t what you say It’s the people who make it looked at the role of volunteers in the Big Society. The event took place as a debate and was hosted by Polly Toynbee, journalist and Guardian columnist. She posed challenging questions to the panelists, including Nick Hurd MP, Minister for Civil Society, and Helen Walker, Chief Executive, TimeBank.
