In 2010 Pigalle advised on the development of Art Experiment for Garage Centre for Contemporary Culture at inception stage. She worked closely with the International Curator, alongside the London and Moscow teams, to shape the content, tone and evaluation structure. Art Experiment was the first event of its kind in Russia, providing an immersive environment with fully participatory activities, for adults and their families to engage with contemporary art. Art Experiment remains one of the most popular events in Garage CCC’s education program, attracting over 6,000 visitors in 2011.
In 2011 and 2013 Pigalle was commissioned to design and develop creative concepts for Art Experiment. She contributed concepts alongside prominent artists such as Bompas & Parr, Martin Creed and Punch Drunk Experience. She also provided support in developing the web communication strategy and further evaluation methods.
“Thank you so much for your incredible work and creating amazing ideas” – Kirstine Wallace, International Curator, Garage CCC
Art Experiment 2010 and 2011 originally spanned a weekend, throughout the entire building of the Garage CCC, formerly the Bakhmetevsky Bus Garage in Moscow. Art Experiment 2013 took place within a temporary pavilion in Gorky Park, designed by the acclaimed architect Shigeru Ban.
“Pigalle presented a true clarity of thought and a pragmatic approach, combined with an extraordinary imagination and creative energy. Her sensitivity to the unique cultural context of Russia and the diversity of our visitors was obvious in the way she created her ideas” – Kirstine Wallace, International Curator, Garage CCC
In 2011 Pigalle designed sensory environments and devised interactive workshops based on the theme of Surrealism, for the entrance hall, lounge, millinery and a portraiture studio. She was invited back in 2013 to design four more immersive workshops, based on exploring the universe and its relationship between the microscopic and the macroscopic.
“These were whole worlds, not singular activities, the result was an energetic and rounded approach. It was more than we imagined, Pigalle very much exceeded all our expectations” – Kirstine Wallace, International Curator, Garage CCC
